Antique 1898 Set of 12 Sterling Silver Large Entree Forks Fiddle Thread & Shell

  

Welcome to William Sharpe Antiques. Here today for your consideration we have this rare and complete set of twelve sterling silver large entree forks, made by John Round & Son (Joseph Ridge) of Sheffield, c-1898. This superb set has been executed in the popular fiddle, thread and shell pattern and is of exceptional quality and gauge. Condition is good overall, with no monograms to the face or underside, and damage limited to a couple of misshapen tines here and there.

The forks have been lightly polished with respect to the patina. Each fork bears the same hallmark and date letter, rarely found in such a large set. Each fork measures about 18.5cm long, and they have an incredibly generous combined weight of 846gms approx. First established in 1847, John Round started work from a small space attached to his residence in Tudor Street, Sheffield. In 1874, his son Edwin officially joined the family business and as such the firm was renamed John Round & Son Ltd, a name that was used and relied on for quality and style until the 1930s. In 1886, the firm was combined with Ridge, Allcard & Co under the direction of Joseph Ridge. To see my other items!
