This is an antique 4/4 violin, fiddle. There is an old repair's label visible inside the f hole; it is written in French, cursive and hard to read: Repara par. M Alealore Noitiore, and another line bellow I can't read. It was repaired by a French lutiere, and by the looks of it, I would say it was made in France sometime in the mid 1800s, possibly earlier. The violin may have been converted from a baroque instrument to a modern one.
The button is crowned with ebony, which often times is an indication of this kind of work done. I do not see any other repairs or cracks.
The violin has been restored and revarnished, and also has. It is structurally sound, and. In excellent ready to play condition. The tone is great: balanced on all strings and with good projection It will get even better with quality new strings and regular playing. Dimensions are: length 14 and 1/8" width 8 and 1/8".
