The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with moderate shoulders, filling out with a hair more heft and roundness in the upper registers, measuring. 825 deep at the 1st fret and. The bound rosewood fretboard is a dark cut with pearloid dot inlay, and the medium jumbo fretwire is flawless. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4 scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod.
The original nut measures a full 1 11/16 in width, carved from bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. The headstock sports an "Artist"-embossed truss rod cover, and the Ibanez-branded Velve-Tune tuning machines turn smoothly (as the name would suggest) and hold accurate pitch. The G81-prefix serial number on the back of the headstock translates to a a July, 1981 build date. All of the electronics function as intended, with the Super 58 humbuckers governed by independent Volume and Tone controls. The wiring harness has untouched solder joints, and the original Japanese pots date to May, 1981. Gold-plated hardware includes the Gibraltar Tune-o-matic bridge and "Special" ornate tailpiece, as well as the brass switch tip. The gloss Antique Violin finish is extremely well-kept, exhibiting a bit of pick scuffing along the strum path, a handful of minor dings largely limited to the lower bout body perimeter, and a few faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole.
