Up for sale, a 1981 Yamaha Studio Lord model SL800S in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Crafted in Japan, this set neck Studio Lord takes its cues from the LP Standard, with a two-piece carved maple top, mahogany body, three-piece maple neck with volute, and stock humbuckers. The guitar is lively and powerful sounding, and the craftsmanship is evident in the great playability and classic range of LP tones.

The original pickups are clear and authoritative with a bit of growl and bite. Both pickups have dedicated push/pull coil taps on the Tone knobs, for single coil tonalities that deliver ample sparkle and cut. The instrument weighs 10lbs 12oz, and not surprisingly this guitar can deliver plenty of punch and sustain. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this Studio Lord with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The three-piece maple neck has a modestly slender C-shaped profile carved that plays effortlessly in every register.

The bound rosewood fretboard is an extremely dark and tight-grained cut of this tonewood, and the original jumbo fretwire shows virtually no wear. Measurements familiar to any Gibson fan, the guitar features a 24 3/4" scale length and a 1 11/16" wide hand-carved bone nut, ensuring optimal note clarity and sustain. The headstock has a nick on the bass-side headstock tip, retaining the original chrome Yamaha Japan-branded Grover Rotomatic-style tuners which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The chrome hardware is in great shape with just a light speckling of surface patina, and the original quartet of gold reflector cap knobs is intact. The Violin Sunburst gloss finish is framed by cream binding, and cosmetic wear is limited to a bit of pick scuffing at the treble side of the strum path, a couple of finish chips on the back body edge, and some minor marks and faint finish scratches mostly relegated to the back and body perimeter.
