This is a fully restored antique 4/4 violin, fiddle. There is a label visible inside the f hole:Jacobus Stainer in Absam prope Oenipontum 1730 (the last two digits handwritten in ink).It is also branded Stainer on the back in the button area. This is obviously a copy made in Germany sometime in the early 1900s for export to the US. The violin has been restored and revarnished at some point in the past. There are some old repaired cracks. They are professionally done, completely stable, and have no effect on the beautiful sound of the violin. The violin is structurally sound, and in excellent ready to play condition.
The tone is great as is, but it will get even better with new strings and regular playing. Dimensions are: length 14 and 1/4" width 8 and 1/8". The item "Early 1900 Jacobus Stainer 4/4 Violin, Great Tone!
