Fine old French master violin - Maurice Bourguignon workshop dated 1925. Please listen to the video/soundfile & scroll down to see all detailed XXL photos below as part of the description. BOURGUIGNON, Maurice, born 1885 in Mattaincourt, nr.

Mirecourt France, died after 1926 Brussels Belgium. Subsequently worked in Paris and with G. Mougenot in Brussels, whose business he acquired in 1910. Awarded several medals and diplomas at various Exhibitions.

This beautiful violin shows no open cracks or open seams. Nicely carved scroll with decorative purling and accurately inlaid purfling on front and back table. Branded on the upper back JAF, presumably the initals of the 1st owner. The table is medium to fine grained spruce and the highly arched 1-piece back, as well as ribs and neck, is nicely flamed maple. Pegs, fingerboard, tailpiece and chinrest are ebony. The instrument has been revised by our luthiers and checked by our violin player on playability. In our workshop it received new ebony pegs, elder ebony tailpiece, an ebony chinrest, a new bridge and new strings.

These are new German silver wound steel core strings with good projection, easy to play while allowing rapid performance. We use these strings on mostly all of our violins to provide a comparison of the tonal qualities of each instrument in the videos. In any case a new owner should consider higher quality strings of own personal preference to enhance the full character of this violin!
