Nicely carved scroll and accurately inlaid purfling. This violin from 1st half 1800s is presumably from the famous Hopf ateliers in Klingenthal, Saxony - an outstanding antique instrument with a wonderful sound that is superior to many other violins sharing the same provenance. There's no stamp or label, but the unmistakable model features the typical "angular" contours, opulently executed edges and a light brown varnish over a light ground.

The scroll is full of character and clearly inspired by Italian patterns, the purfling is crafted with great care by an experienced violin maker. The rosewood fingerboard was renewed onto the old baroque neck. It was completely worked over by our luthier, who applied a new setup, and is offered in immediate playing condition, unfolding its exceptionally beautiful, mature sound. This beautiful violin shows no open cracks or open seams, and surely some minor marks in it´s old amber varnish due to its age. The table is medium to fine grained spruce and the 1-piece back, as well as ribs and neck, is nicely flamed maple. The violin received new ebony pegs, new ebony chinrest, new ebony tailpiece, new bridge and new strings. In any case a new owner should consider higher quality strings of own personal preference to enhance the full tonal character of this violin!

Good old German violin in immediate playing condition! Total 58,5 cm / 23', body 35,3 cm / 13.9', vibrating chord length 31 cm / 12.4', weight 444 gr / 15.66 oz.
