THE VIOLIN WAS USED IN THE FILM and is seen and heard in many places. For sale here is that violin - a re-graduated Italian style Stradivarius copy violin made in Mittenwald for William Lewis and Son. This violin appears many times in the film. Anyone making an offer of the donation amount needed, will receive this violin AND all the recognition and perqs as a donor to the project.

A donation/sale of an amount close to the asking price here will help make it possible for the producers of the film to DONATE the film to PBS television for airing anywhere in the US. 6000 Miles to Ukraine - documentary - (52 minutes): A musician travels 6000 miles from the spectacular Cascade mountains of Southern Oregon to Paris, France, and then to Lviv, Ukraine - for the performance of his Fifth Symphony on Ukrainian independence day. In Ukraine, he is surprised by the beauty of Lviv as a city and the greatness of the people and culture there. VIOLIN DESCRIPTION : A full size violin of a nut brown color on an Italian style golden ground, antiqued, probably dating from the 1930s to 50s, with two labels (see pics): the makers label says: Made Expressly For William Lewis and Son Chicago, Illinois, in Mittenwald, Germany , with two notations of numbers written in ink.

The second label indicates the violin was regraduated in New York by A. The violin is clearly a Stradivarius pattern instrument, more sophisticated than most, in that it has very high ribs, maybe the highest one will ever see. The Lewis Company owned some Stradivari violins, and some of their copies are quite good instruments. The back has clearly been regraduated and refinished - done very nicely - and so has the top.

The person doing the work seems to have changed the antiquing also. The violin has never been cracked and is in very good condition. The most outstanding feature of this instrument is its sound. Although descriptions of sound are subjective, I will give one here as a violinist who has played it a fair amount. The E string sound is outstanding.

In my opinion a violinist could have a distinctive sound from exploiting that alone with this instrument. Another outstanding aspect of the tone is that it has what is called squealo not only on the E, but also present in the A and D string tones - very rare. This says that the regraduation done is successful. The nature of the tone is definitely in the Stradivarius territory, with the highs in the tone always more prominent.
