Rare Old Antique 1852 Vintage Italian Raffaele Gagliano 4/4 Violin-Butter Sound

This Fine Italian 4/4 Violin is in only fair condition. The violin bears a label: Rafaele ed Antonio Gagliano Quondam Giovanni Napoli 1852.

I believe this label to be authentic and the violin from this Master. I matched the scroll and F holes to this maker from pictures in The Walter Hama Book of Italian Master Violin Makers.

Someone else may have a different opinion. The sound is like WARM BUTTER, evenly balanced on all strings and great in the higher positions. The sound is perfect for recording Chamber Music!!! This fine 4/4 has a lovely flamed maple two piece back. There are the usual scratches, scuffs and scrapes to the varnish one would expect from a violin this age.

There are many professional repairs to the table (top) including sound post. The back has a sound post repair.

The violin has VERY GOOD NEW strings on it. The pegs match and work fine. The violin is ready to play with no further work needed. The wood is tight fine grain spruce on the table and really lovely flamed maple on the ribs, back, neck. The inlayed purfling is real, not painted on!!!
