Vintage German VIOLIN 4/4 Price reduced

  

Built around the turn of the century and probably German, although French violins also were built with cleats along the spine on the back of the instrument. All parts are intact including the sound post and there doesn't appear to be any repairs to the violin.

Possibly original bow with silver or nickel tip. The bow was (professionally) re-strung and a new grip added. It looks like the original tuners may have been the full mechanical style, note the original mounting holes in the pics. The existing tuners have a patent date of May 2,1888.

I can tell you that this violin was built with cleats along the center of the full length of the back. I've included a picture of two of the cleats which are visible through the F-holes.

The heel of the tailpiece has 3 small notches that were carved into the stem, I have no clue as to why, I've never seen those notches on any other tailpiece, certainly these vintage instruments could tell many stories. The shoulder (clip on) pad is also included along with two perhaps original bridges. Please ask if you would like to see additional pictures. Comes with what I believe to be the original coffin style case, there is a pic of the latch with makers marks.
